Chevron Site Update

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

More updates to the Chevron [electronic music producer] website. Now incorporates a small e-Commerce store.

Wordpress is undoubtedly my favourite blog software, and with a few easy tweaks and additional widgets it’s easy to turn into a great, high-quality content management system. Its back-end administration system is really well thought out, clear and nicely designed. It also uses some pretty nifty AJAX components that make maintenance that bit more fluid and fast. I recommend Wordpress to most clients I work with, including businesses. In fact there aren’t many situations I can think of where Wordpress wouldn’t be the platform I would recommend. I work with Joomla a lot too, and comparatively Wordpress comes out on top thanks to not suffering the usual gripe of an awful page editor.

This site is a complete CSS/XHTML build using Wordpress, with original artwork and illustration shared between myself and <a href=”http://www.piratio.com”>Piratio</a>.

The e-Commerce suite I’m working with here is still undergoing some tweaks, but should be fully working by the end of the week. My client is very happy.

Halifax Bank of Scotland - The Home & Garden Club, site design

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Complete concept and design through to standards compliant CSS/XHTML delivery of template for a customised version of Joomla Open-Source CMS. Includes artwork and offers from major national retailers including Debenhams, Cargo, Laura Ashley.

A Joomla CMS deployment here that has been heavily customised. Joomla is nice, but a bit awkward - the inbuilt page editor is especially poor so it’s taken quite a bit of work to get the site up to a standard where other staff can work on it without breaking things or creating really poor code in the process.

This project was commissioned by Halifax Bank of Scotland and is being marketed to over one million of their cardmembers.

Also, e-mail campaign promoting the product. Sent to 1 million Halifax and Bank of Scotland cardholders:
