Nice advice Richard. As an employer, I am inundated with CVs at the same time as doing all my normal work, so I'm looking for a CV that is short and clear. I look for buzzwords, but also evidence that the person was really involved in the activity and not just listing words. Not so interested on the covering letter. If the CV is good then I look at the portfolio. This is vital that it is good. Finally, and sadly, it's all about good timing. If you happened to email at a slack time or when the employer is getting pressured to hire then you will get full attention, otherwise you might get overlooked.
